Not only may there be slight errors resulting from the effects of the vane itself, but also from the parts that it may be mounted on. Bending of the boom that the vanes may be mounted on can also contribute to some error, but through calculations and calibration many of these errors can be compensated for. A method for reducing the turbulence error of the vane is to locate them at a distance of at least tow boom diameters from the axis of the boom. This height allows for the air passing through it to be somewhat more representative of the true airflow that is approaching the entire aircraft, and not just at localized points.
